The Site

The site extends to approximately 4.4 hectares and is roughly triangular in shape. The land slopes down steeply from north to south. It is located on the south-western edge of Aston, contained by the A57 trunk road to the south and the A618 Mansfield Road to the east and north. To the immediate northwest is an adjoining field, beyond which is Aston Park Industrial Estate, with agricultural land lying to the other side of the A57.

Aston

Aston forms part of the Aston Cum Aughton civil parish alongside the settlements of Aughton and Swallownest, with a combined population of approximately 15,000.


It is home to a local high school (Aston Academy) and numerous local primary schools including Aston C of E, Aston Hall Primary, Aston Lodge Primary, Aston Springwood Junior & Infant School and Aston Fence Junior & Infant School. It is well served by many local shops, pubs and eateries. Aston -cum -Aughton Leisure Centre provides a full gym, swimming pool and several sports facilities for the locality. Rother Valley Country Park also lies around 2 miles south of Aston. This comprises several lakes, nature reserves and a wide range of recreational activities including mountain biking, sailing, and water skiing.
